The purpose of this course is to provide knowledge in examining the initial and subsequent family responses to the challenge of a child with a disability within both the family and school system. It will also address current trends of e-learning for special needs students and their families including a brief summary of K-12 various online teaching tools, how to successfully support and communicate with families from a distance, and solving specific problems and guidance for conducting engaging online meetings. Further emphasis will also be on understanding the complex issues surrounding families and children with disabilities and the navigation of transitions within systems. Establishing effective family partnerships and implementing collaborative strategies for professionals will also be discussed. All resources and materials for classroom use will be provided. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in relevant course activities and discussion panels. This course is designed to assist both K-12 regular education and special education teachers.
