Teachers across the country are using the transformative power of GIS technology (Geographic Information System) to engage students across the curriculum. Learn to use this cutting-edge but simple-to-use technology to help students foster a deeper understanding of historical and contemporary events, current issues, and scientific phenomena by connecting digital mapping to causation and spatial awareness while enhancing students' technological and problem-solving skills. Learn how to obtain free web-based ArcGIS Online software as well as the basics of using the software and applying it to the teaching of many subject areas. This course will also show participants how to find ready-made, standards-based lesson plans for a variety of subject areas.
Recommended for 6th grade through high school, this technology is ideal for interdisciplinary and STEM education; inquiry and problem-based instruction, and targets the Next Generation Science Standards; Common Core standards in math, ELA, and the social sciences; and the standards for AP Environmental Science.
